Achref Chargui and Jacopo Andreini met in Tunis in 2006 during the recording of the new album by the French-Italian-Tunisian band L'ENFANCE ROUGE released as “Trapani – Alq al Waady” and distributed worldwide. Their meetings intensified in the last 3 years, before and after the so-called “Jasmin Revolution” and they wanted to find ways to collaborate musically.

Through the Italian cultural association DRABA and thank to AFOFORO MUSIC CLUB Mr. Chargui was able to come to Italy for the first time and set up several meetings with local musicians and recording session for his debut solo album “NOTES”, released by Afoforomusicclub in may 2013 and digitally available on Bandcamp.

During this first meeting Achref Chargui started also an international project called “No Borders' Music” about his own compositions rooted in traditional Tunisian melodies and rhythms. In addition to this, Mr. Andreini proposed to start a trio with his long time collaborator Piero Spitilli.

Veronica Citi, very active documentary director and photographer, was also invited to be part of the project, filming Mr. Chargui in several exclusive locations and starting documenting both the “No Borders' Music” and trio materials.

The trio played in several italian jazz clubs, further exploring their compositions, their sound and their interplay. Now they are ready to tour extensively through European countries, plus Japan and Brazil in 2014. They have been invited to play in Vevey (next to Montreux, Switzerland) in june 2013.

Achref Chargui's trio music is deeply rooted in both Arabic music and jazz improvisation. The band's ability to compose in real time themes and structures, with any kind of time signatures, shifting tempos, multi-layered patterns and sound research of the acoustical instruments, not to mention the huge knowledge of oriental modes by Mr. Chargui, is unique and precious. Far away from standard approaches to sound and music, the trio's endless research for beauty follows mysterious paths toward unique listening experiences.

La musica del trio è basata sulle armonie della musica Classica Araba e dell'improvvisazione di stampo jazzistico. L'abilità dei tre musicisti nel creare in tempo reale temi e strutture con cambiamenti di tempo, pattern stratificati e ricerca delle sonorità più estreme dei propri strumenti rigorosamente acustici - senza parlare dell'enorme conoscenza di Chargui dei modi musicali di tutto l'Oriente - rendono la musica del trio profonda e unica. Lontani dagli approcci standard al suono e alla musica, l'infinita ricerca del trio segue sentieri misteriosi attraverso esperienze d'ascolto irripetibili.

per la prima volta in Italia

Afoforomusicclub è felice di presentare per la prima volta in Italia uno dei solisti di 'ud più apprezzati in Tunisia: Achref Chargui

Achref Chargui si è diplomato in Musica Araba nel 2002 e nell'anno successivo ha vinto il premio dell'associazione Culturale e Artistica de “La Rachidia”, specializzata in musica Tunisina, come miglior solista di 'ud. Ha ricevuto inoltre un Master in Musicologia e Studi Culturali nel 2009 e sta attualmente lavorando alla sua tesi di dottorato.
Chargui è professore di 'ud all' Institut Supérieur de Musique de Tunis e al Conservatoire Nationale de Tunis in Tunisia dal 2007. Ha suonato in numerosi festival internazionali come solista e come membro di vari ensembles.

With their third transatlantic bouillabaisse of anarcho-virtuosi avant-punk stylings, Tsigoti continue to intone their unabashed frustrations with the shortcomings of our human experiment with war. The Imagination Liberation Front Thinks Again (ILF), our new slab from this quartet of overly experienced anti-specialists, merges the angst of punk, the absurdity of Dada and the soapbox political shoutings of the world’s finest provocateurs.

ILF shifts like the surface of an ocean. It’s moody, cinematic and forceful. The lyrics are borne from genuine frustration and dissatisfaction with the atrocities of war, violence, injustice, genocide, superiority, prejudice, arrogance, oppression, pollution and freeways. There’s a Dadaesque boiling-over to the words, which only supply yet more integrity to the madcap ravings of the guitar, bass and drums. At times, Thollem provides an exemplary bent circus piano, even throwing in some ragtime, but as if Scott Joplin swapped hormones with Iggy Pop.  Each musician grows in and out of each other, in a quantumly and musically entangled force field.
But this is not inaccessible music, which makes Tsigoti even more important. Their whimsical, spasmodic punkestrations exhibit a deep precision, like a finely-oiled Jean Tinguely sculpture. You just hit the power switch and watch the whole thing unfold. That is how to experience the world of Tsigoti.

Squarcicatrici tour autunno 2012

Dopo la pubblicazione dell'album “Bossa Storta” sulla storica etichetta francese Saravah e dell'omonimo album “Squarcicatrici” uscito in Italia per Wallace rec e Burp Enterprise e negli Stati Uniti per Northpole Rec la band ha suonato in tutta europa, Italia inclusa.
Recentemente è uscito un live a La Scighera, “Squarci a Milano”, disponibile in download gratuito sulla pagina della San Giuseppe Records, un brano sulla compilation della NorthPole records “Northpole POP” e un EP live della tournée con Scott Rosenberg ai sassofoni, ascoltabile gratuitamente sulla pagina di Afoforomusicclub.
La band ha quasi finito le registrazioni del nuovo album “Zen Crust”, in uscita entro la fine del 2012, che vede all'opera il quartetto Andreini, Caprara, Spitilli e Bennici e tutti i quattro batteristi che hanno suonato negli ultimi anni con la band: Andrea Belfi, Enzo Rotondaro, Simone Tecla, Andrea Dilillo.

Il quintetto è pronto a scavare ulteriormente nella sua musica per ballare e sudati avvinghiarsi ai sentimenti più densi. Afrojazz emigrante, punk acustico, electrotrance.
